Transitional Counseling Program – JSSA

Making the move to an assisted living community can be a difficult change for the individual resident as well as his or her family. Residents who are new to a senior living community may be leaving the home, neighborhood, and friends that they have been familiar with for decades.

At Chesterbrook Residences, we understand how difficult the change in lifestyle can be. To help make the adjustments easier for everyone involved, we offer two complimentary sessions with a transition counselor. Each session is 1.5 hours. This service is free to our new residents and is provided in conjunction with JSSA (Jewish Social Service Agency). Residents who wish to learn more or to schedule an appointment please contact our Resident Services Coordinator at Chesterbrook by calling 703-531-0781.

Transportation — Shepherd’s Center

The Shepherd’s Center of McLean-Arlington-Falls Church (SMAFC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer-based, interfaith organization sponsored by area congregations, community groups and businesses to serve older persons in these areas of Northern Virginia. It is dedicated to assisting senior adults in maintaining an independent and safe lifestyle.

Services are provided exclusively by volunteers, free of charge, to anyone age 50 or older who resides in our local community. There are no income-level requirements. Financial contributions are appreciated but not required. Shepherd’s Center provides:

  • Transportation: To medical appointments.
  • Companion Shopping: To pharmacies, banks, groceries.
  • Handy Helpers: Help with minor home repairs.
  • Friendly Callers: Volunteers make regular contact by phone with our clients
  • In-Home Visitors: Volunteers provide the home-bound with companionship.
  • Referrals: When the services of a professional are needed, we help locate on-line and other resources.

Residents who wish to use this service, please contact our Resident Services Coordinator at Chesterbrook by calling 703-531-0781. You can also learn more on the Shepherd’s Center website.

Massage Therapy – Body Dynamics

We have partnered with Body Dynamics, Inc. so that our residents have access to clinical massage therapists who will evaluate and treat soft tissue dysfunctions through hands-on manipulation and neuromuscular re-education. The massage therapist looks for movement patterns or postural habits which when released and reprogrammed will relieve pain, reduce stress, improve performance, and enhance overall health.

Their massage therapists have the training, skills, and clinical experience to address a wide variety of medical conditions, including:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Hypermobility syndrome
  • Low back pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Muscle strains
  • Sports injuries
  • Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ)
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Whiplash
  • Sinusitis
  • Arthritis
  • Stress
