News and announcements for Chesterbrook Residences. Chesterbrook Residences is a mixed-income community offering affordable assisted living services in a home-like setting to adults age 62 and older. Nestled within a beautiful forested setting in the McLean/Falls Church area of Northern Virginia, Chesterbrook Residences provides three meals daily in its gracious dining room, weekly housekeeping and assistance with daily activities and medication management, plus a full activities program. Chesterbrook Residences and community residents honored the daily dedication and hard work of the Direct Support Professionals who help all who live and work in the award-winning assisted living residence to enjoy dignity, grace, and security.

As part of a month-long Fairfax County-wide series of recognition events for DSPs, Marilen King and her staff welcomed Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust to officially present a County Proclamation to Chesterbrook’s DSPs. Supervisor Foust joined Ms. King in praising their vital work and their contribution to making Chesterbrook Residences the community treasure that it has so quickly become after recently opening its doors.

In nomadic cultures in desert areas like northern Africa, nuts are a key element of the daily diet.  Why?  A handful of nuts can pack extended energy without causing thirst.  This is imperative in a desert, but it’s also very helpful for anyone who wants to stay full while watching their weight.

Nuts are a whole real food, rich in protein, healthy fats, fiber, minerals and vitamins necessary for health and metabolism.  Unsalted nuts don’t make you thirsty, so they don’t cause dehydration like beef or pork.

All Calories are NOT created equal

Not all calories are equal, especially when it comes to carbohydrates and protein. A recent study found that eating protein for breakfast improves all the hormones that control weight, reduce the hunger hormone (grehlin), and slows emptying of the stomach. The exact same calories from a carbohydrate like white bread increase the hunger hormones and make your stomach empty faster.
